Ayubowan!
My name is Indika Kandanearachchi, and I am a proud Colombo-born and Colombo-based Sri Lankan. Colombo is not just the city where I live. It is the city I grew up in, studied in, and have known throughout my life. I attended school and university in Colombo, giving me a deep personal connection with the city and its people, history, culture, and everyday life.
Before becoming a professional tourist guide, I worked in the corporate world as an Assistant Finance Manager, a career I continued until 2020. That same year, I followed the National Tourist Guide course conducted by the Government of Sri Lanka and became a Licensed National Tourist Guide.
Since then, guiding has given me the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Sri Lanka and meet people from all over the world.
More Than Just a Walking Guide
I am not just a walking tour guide. I have travelled with guests across Sri Lanka. Through cities, villages, mountains, beaches, cultural sites, historical places, and many of the hidden corners of this beautiful island. Over the years, I have gained a broad knowledge of Sri Lanka and its people, and I enjoy sharing not only the famous attractions but also the stories and experiences that make the country special.
Colombo Is My Specialty
I like to describe Sri Lanka as a little island with a very big story. After years of travelling around the country, I can confidently say that I know its many different sides, but Colombo is my true specialty. Today, my special focus is Colombo. Because I was born and raised here, Colombo is different for me. I don’t simply show visitors the places listed in a guidebook. I want my guests to experience the real Colombo: its history, colonial heritage, religious traditions, local markets, food, people, architecture, and modern lifestyle. I enjoy showing how Colombo has evolved from an ancient trading port and colonial city into the vibrant, multicultural, and constantly changing city it is today.
